The 31st Annual Doodlebug Open was played in October at the Greentree Country Club with admonishment that club rules stated that collared shirts, tailored shorts and not jeans were to be worn. Of course no outside alcoholic beverages were allowed but beer was provided on the course if they removed the beer the tournament might be reduced to two or three foursomes!
SEG sent letters supporting HB 1221 in the Texas Legislature to register and license geologists and geophysicists. SEG support was to guarantee that geophysicists could operate free of geologist restrictions or geological registration.
During the year we heard papers (1) on high resolution imaging in carbonate reservoirs using cross-well seismology and (2) 3-Dmigration techniques. Seems like paper #2 would have a large affect on paper #1 depending on the degree of dip and data quality. Did anyone ever say that geophysics was easy?
During the year some of the older hands received awards for SEG membership: 25 years to Ed Bean, Harold Culpepper and Albert Hill: 50 years (whew) to Lorenz Shock.
Membership dues were up to $15.00 for 1993-94.
The 36th Annual Meeting, again at the Holiday Inn, hosted Michael Schoenberger, SEG President, as keynote speaker. 3-D seismic was, also again, dominated the program but one non-technical paper was presented by a lawyer on Surface Access Problems, Subsurface Trespass and Litigation. The paper highlighted and discussed most of the problems with which we are already familiar and mostly made it clear on what should be considered when trespass is possible and the causes of action when trespass occurs. Other papers were largely devoted to 3-D survey design.
