The advent of 3-D acquisition and more sophisticated processing brought us papers throughout the year on migration, fault plane imaging, stratigraphy studies, lithology analysis and basic and advanced acquisition techniques.
The Midland Public Library also announced their acquisition of the GEO-REF information system. The database was compiled by the AGI with quarterly updates of 15,000 to 20,000 new references from more than 4000 journals as well as books, maps and reports. USGS publications and Canadian and US theses from 1965 were also included. There are no fees for access. The PBGS has supplied financial support to the library.
The Midland Chamber of Commerce also gave us a sales pitch on a proposed _ cent development sales tax are taxing entities never happy?
In February, 1992, Dr. Diane Doser told us about a five year study on seismicity in the Permian Basin area. She noted that activity in the 2.0 to 3.0 level has been recorded since 1976 and continues today. The main zone seems to be along the CBP and preliminary depth estimates are 12km + 2km suggesting fluid migration along fault planes and not oil production related. We presume none of the majors are tight-holing us on the true depth of some of their wells.
Our Spring meeting (34th) was again at the Holiday Inn Convention Center with William S. French, SEG President, as keynote speaker. Almost all the papers covered some aspect of 3-D acquisition including the economics of such surveys.
