Distinguished lecturers seemed to be in favor during the term since we had Dr. James D. Robertson in November and John C. Sherwood the following February. There was also a Continuing Education program in May on the Fundamentals for Digital Seismic Processing. At least the PBGS is trying to keep us up to par with other segments of the industry. Of course, that is the main function al all the societies the luncheons, golf, beer and barbeque are just side benefits. Cant beat a deal like that!
Inflation and decreasing membership brought the national SEG to propose dues increases and the PBGS followed suit. The SEG proposed a $5.00 per year increase effective 1-1-91 and to be followed by regular incremental increases. The PBGS proposed a one time rise to $17.50 per year.
The PBGS was plagued one more time with a presidential transfer Al Berroteran was moved to Dallas in the Fall and tried to commute for meets, but finally had to give in to business pressures and turned the reins over to Hal Pardue.
The 32nd Annual Meeting featured Ken Larner, SEG President, and a variety of papers on sand and carbonate detection as well as up-to-date presentations on 3-D surveys and inversion techniques for lithologic correlations. Mayor Carrol Thomas welcomed convention participants.
