History of the PBGS: 1987-88
OFFICERS:
PRESIDENT: Thomas P. ONeal (Exploration Geophysics Inc.)
PRES. ELECT: Alfred R. Berroteran (Enserch Exploration Inc.)
VICE PRES.: Howell W. Pardue (Dawson Geophysical Company)
SECRETARY: James E. Flis (Chevron USA)
TREASURER: Frank D. Stillwell (UNOCAL)
In a Call for Papers announcement it was noted that the PBGS was entering into its third decade with the 31st Annual Meeting. This is slightly misleading since the PBGS has also hosted the SEG Midwest Meetings which have the SEG numbering sequence and are not included in our own. The first PBGS meeting was in 1952 so the 1988 annual meeting will mean we have hosted a total of 37 meetings 31 of which will have been PBGS annuals.
The Doodlebug Open also reached a milestone by celebrating its 25th year. Many prizes were awarded and Mike Cook won a trip to Acapulco.
The IRS again reviewed our tax return and continued our tax exempt status but they did make some change requests in our reporting procedure. At their request we make a slight change to our by-laws regarding allocation of assets should the PBGS ever disband heaven forbid! The PBGS is in sound financial shape and we continue to support the scholarship program, public library, etc.
The 31st Annual Meeting as held at the Holiday Inn Country Villa and Convention Center with L. C. (Lee) Lawyer, SEG President, as keynote speaker. The theme was Prepare for the Future and a couple of papers on 3-D seismic were appropriately included.
In 1988 we were proud and honored to see L. Decker Dawson elected to President-elect of the SEG. This singular honor to Decker is also a symbol of pride and a vision of opportunity to all PBGS members. Dedication to industry, hard work and outreaching contributions to the industry can be utilized by anyone of us to achieve such an honor. Decker has set a good example for all us to follow just as he has done for years in operating Dawson Geophysical Company. Congratulations Decker!
Only one other active PBGS member has been elected to an SEG post and that was R. Maxey Pinson as noted in the 1961 Original Recap, and one ex-PBGS member, Marvin R. Hewitt (2nd VP in 1961), was elected as an SEG officer in 1981 and was our keynote speaker in 1982.
