History of the PBGS: 1985-86

The Society voted to designate one of their two scholarship funds as the L. Decker Dawson Scholarship in recognition of Deckers many contributions to the Society and the industry.
A variety of papers were presented at the regular meetings including 2 Distinguished Lecture speakers Fred Hilterman and Peter Vail.
The Midland Energy Library officially opened and boasted 3,000,000 completion cards, 32,000 sample logs and 1737 well velocity surveys, as well as other data. All this information is available for a very reasonable membership fee.
Federal activity on a simplified tax law promised to affect IDCs and depletion, and prompted much response from all industry segments.
Geophysical crew activity in West Texas and New Mexico remained low as the industry still suffers from depressed oil prices. Most drilling activity was development rather than exploratory.
The Society hosted the 29th Annual Meeting on My 16, 1986. Theme was Keeping Up With Change, and keynote speaker was Bruno Hanson, President-Elect, AAPG. Eight technical papers were presented and this time Mayor Carroll welcomed guests.
