No “Original Recap” statements are available after 1981. The Joint Directory continued to list officers for the Society but did not carry on the historical statements. Various publication problems caused a delay until 1983-84 before a Directory was published. Economic pressures to cut costs resulted in the total elimination of the PBGS history in the 1986-87 Directory. For better or worse, that action is what prompted this work – which, hopefully, will be continued.

The economic decline in the industry had begun and during the year several papers on non-seismic techniques were presented as well as papers on strat studies aimed at shallower objective zones.

The “Doodlebug Open” made history by being a 3 day event with 209 golfers participating. The “Worst Dressed” title remained with “Butch” Barrie.

Membership just after the golf tournament stood at 765!!

All the Directory photos were destroyed in a fire (not the first one) so all those high school graduation photos had to be replaced with something more up to date, not too good for some of us!

The PBGS hosted the 26th Annual Exploration Meeting on Friday, May 14, 1982. The theme was “Decision Point”. Keynote speaker was SEG 2nd Vice President, Marvin Hewitt, who spoke on “1982-Decision Point”. Seven technical papers were presented and Mayor Thane Akins welcomed guests.
