ORIGINAL RECAP: “The 22nd Annual Permian Basin Geophysical Society Exploration Meeting was held on May 13, 1977. Theme being “Exploration Today-Energy Tomorrow”. Roy O. Lindseth, President of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, was keynote speaker. Two scholarships, totaling $1000 each, were awarded to two students majoring in geophysics. Honorary Life Membership was awarded to L. Fred Uhrig. A new print-out of velocity surveys was updated by Rodney Robinson, Geo-Search Corporation.

The PBGS was again generous when it approved, in February, 1977, a motion to provide a maximum of $3000 per year for junior and/or senior level college scholarships to be controlled by the Scholarship Committee with review by the Executive Committee. It was also noted, rather sadly, that no high school graduates had applied for scholarship aid for the previous two years.

The PBGS velocity listing is now recorded on magnetic tape and in SEG format. To those who would say – what took so long? – remember that this rather formidable task was done on a purely volunteer basis

Secretary Bob Hoffman moved from Midland and resigned as Second Vice President in February, 1977. The total membership stood at 237 on June, 1977 (right after the annual Bar-B-Q).

The Continuing Education Committee organized a one day course on Vibroseis* by Mr. D. G. Lang of Petty Ray Geophysical Co. This meeting was held in conjunction with the 22nd Annual Meeting.
