ORIGINAL RECAP: “The 20thAnnual PBGS Exploration Meeting was held in April. Theme for the meeting was “The Quest for Energy Self-Sufficiency”. Keynote speaker was Dan Skelton, President of the SEG. Two PBGS scholarships were again awarded to two students in geophysics. During the year the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum, Library and Hall of Fame with an exhibit on the history of geophysics opened to the public for the first time”.

The transfer bug bit again when Bob Trapp accepted a new position and moved to Dallas. Jim Williams moved to fill the vacancy at First VP and Don Huxman took over as Secretary.

Some insight into pressure and lithology information was provided at the February, 1975, meeting by, of all persons, a chemical engineer (Billy Aud) from North Georgia and Purdue who had migrated into seismic interpretation.

A report was given by Fred Uhrig on the SEG Governmental Affairs Committee. Immediate concern was over pending legislation which would broaden the government’s role in offshore exploration, extend policies of data ownership to onshore leases and create a government agency to acquire and evaluate geophysical and geological data on all federal lands. The intent was to have companies turn over all their survey results with no recompense and no guarantee of confidentiality. Needless to say, the government did establish an office to gather and evaluate data pertinent to offshore sales areas.

The 20th Annual Meeting was held at Midland Community Theater (Theatre Centre) with city councilman Mark Martin welcoming guests.
