ORIGINAL RECAP: The 15th Annual PBGS Exploration Meeting was held in March with Integrated Exploration-The Key to Reserves as the theme. The meeting was well attended by members of the Society and guests. The scholarship program was revamped to provide that future PBGS scholarships will be awarded to students in geophysics. These scholarships will be awarded on a competitive point system similar to that used by the SEG scholarship foundation. A new PBGS monthly newsletter was designed and published by Secretary S. W. Tift. The newsletter was enthusiastically accepted by the membership and will probably be continued in future years. Honorary Life Membership was awarded to D. G. McWilliams and W. B. Moody in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the PBGS. The PBGS began a new educational phase by sponsoring two SEG Continuing Education Lecture series. The lectures were well attended and considered a success by those attending.
The original recap pretty well covered events for the term. December, 1968, membership was 320. Barry Koch was named as PBGS representative to the Continuing Education Committee of the SEG. Decker Dawson (President-Midland Chamber of Commerce) spoke in support of the PBGC (Permian Basin Graduate Center) and cited the need in the Midland area for a 4 year college offering a BS degree.
The Society voted to support a student section of the SEG at Texas Tech but Tech turned down the idea at this time.
L. F. Fred Uhrig, as Library Committee Chairman, was given $150 per year to upgrade geophysical literature at the Midland Public Library.
A motion was passed to incorporate the Society and file for tax exempt status.
PBGS members receiving SEG awards for 25 year membership were Lou G. Cornish, Larry A. Davis, Walter E. Jasper, Donald W. StClair and Merrill D. Tucker.
