ORIGINAL RECAP: “The 14th Annual PBGS Exploration Meeting was held in May. The program, under the theme “Improving Ethnology in Physics and Geology”, was well attended by members of the Society. The PBGS velocity map and index was completely revised under the leadership of Chairman Rollin E. Phipps and made available to the industry. An increased amount of money was made available to the scholarship fund, and two scholarships were awarded to outstanding students from Midland high schools. Large attendance at the monthly technical sessions and social functions reflected the continuing interest of members in the Society. The annual PBGS “Doodlebug” golf tournament again set a new record in number of players”.

The Society continued in its generosity by donating $500 to the West Texas Center for Graduate Studies and increasing scholarship awards from $250 to $500 per year per student.

December, 1967, membership was at 368. The Elks Club remained a favorite meeting place for evening meals and sessions.

The high cost of permits was a main problem to the industry – especially in the Delaware and Val Verde Basin areas. It was feared that a unified action to set permit prices would result in anti-trust problems, so a committee was formed to meet with the sheep and cattle ranchers.

A placement bureau was proposed to aid college students in geophysics in finding summer employment within the industry. Many a jug boy was an aspiring geophysicist.
