ORIGINAL RECAP: “The PBGS was host for the 20th Annual Midwestern Exploration Meeting of the SEG. The program, under the theme “Expanding Frontiers in Exploration” was attended by representatives from all member Societies. Honorary Life Membership was presented to Mr. L. Decker Dawson in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the PBGS. The PBGS became eligible to have the maximum number (three) representatives to the SEG as a result of increased membership of PBGS members in the SEG. The Society continued to award scholarships to outstanding students from the Midland high schools. Continued interest in the Society was reflected by the large attendance at technical meetings and social functions. The annual PBGS “Doodlebug” golf tournament had a record number of players”.

The Doodlebug Open had become very popular with non-geophysicists too, and many of these folks were entering just to win our trophies. This situation evoked some severe criticism.

Midland was again to be a host city, this time for the 20th Midwestern Meeting. Early planning was begun in1966. PBGS membership in June, 1966, stood at 294 and many were called upon to help.

The December, 1966, Christmas dance was held at the “Showboat” (3305 W. Front).

The PBGS Constitution was amended to provide for Honorary and Associate memberships which meant that previous Honorary memberships had been awarded unconstitutionally, but this corrected the situation. The vote carried 167 to 7 (I wonder why not unanimously?).

In early 1967, a membership drive was held for the PBGS-SEG and as of February, 1967, membership in PBGS had reached 409.

Registration for the 20th Midwestern Meeting was at the Downtowner Motel, technical sessions were held at Theatre Centre. TheDowntowner was located at Big Spring and Missouri streets (now a parking lot), and Theatre Centre was just west of Dennis the Menace Park.
