ORIGINAL RECAP: The PBGS held its Annual Exploration Meeting May 5 and 6, and the technical sessions and social functions were very well attended. Interest in the monthly meetings increased as reflected by attendance approaching 200 at some meetings. The Doodlebug golf tournament and PBGS-WTGS were outstanding successes. The newly-formed Education Committee, headed by Barry Koch, presented illustrated lectures to high school seniors designed to stimulate student interest in geophysics as a career. The PBGS continued to award scholarships to outstanding students from Midland high schools.
On Sept. 11, 1965, the 3rd annual Doodlebug Open was held and for the first time the entire tournament was handicapped and computed by electronic computer services donated by Globe Exploration Co.
There were continuing Legislative problems now the Department of Interior was planning to license companies for geophysical operations on public lands and making public knowledge of the location of all traverses. Drilling of shot holes was also to be banned. The end result was the BLM requiring notification of entry and departure date plus possible bonding and establishment of restricted areas.
On Dec. 1, 1965, Dr. Algermissen of the USC&GS spoke on the Alaska Earthquake of March 27, 1964.
In January of 1966, the Society membership stood at 371. Also in January the WTGS set up a Graduate Center Committee with Jack Elam as Chairman.
