ORIGINAL RECAP: “In May, two high school seniors were awarded science scholarships by PBGS. An Honorary Life Membership was presented to Lorenz Shock for his outstanding contributions to the Geophysical Society.” (1963) “In April, PBGS was host for the 17th Annual Midwestern Exploration Meeting of the SEG held for the first time in Midland, Texas. The term of office was extended for the 1963 officers only, to cover an 18 month period, so that the newly elected officers and all those to follow, would commence their yearly term in May and would extend until the following May. PBGS scholarships were continued to outstanding students from the Midland high schools.” (1964)

A resolution was passed to form a scholarship Committee and offer scholarships of $250 for a graduating senior from each of Midland and Lee high schools.

The Eleventh Annual Exploration Meeting was held on May 25, 1963, with 242 registrants. It should be noted that so far all the one day Annual Meetings have been held on Saturday to avoid conflict with normal work week hours.

The 17th Annual Midwestern Exploration Meeting was conducted under the theme “Exploration Problems of the Midwest”. Mayor Hank Avery welcomed guests to Midland. Headquarters for the meeting were the Scharbauer Hotel and technical sessions were held at the Yucca Theater.
