ORIGINAL RECAP: The PBGS held its 9th Annual Exploration Meeting. R. M. Pinson, a past President of PBGS was elected Secretary-Treasurer of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists. PBGS held its first Annual Golf Tournament under the Chairmanship of V. K. Poland. PBGS joined WTGS in publishing the Aquifers of West Texas.
The original recap really covered the highlights for the year 1961. Another first took place when the PBGS golf tournament was held on September 22, 1961. President Fickinger was as avid golfer and in the years since 1961 our golf tournament has been enjoyed by many golfers and non-golfers alike.
This was one of those years when the Society kept moving around town trying to find a satisfactory meeting place. This was to be a problem for several years. During 1961 meetings were held at the Womens Club Building, Elks Club, San Jacinto Jr. High Auditorium, Ranchland Hills Country Club, Sands Motel and the American Legion Hall. (whew!)
Membership totaled 320 in Feb. 1961, with 192 Active and Associate SEG members and 128 non-members.
The Annual Meeting held on May 19-20, had 14 papers presented and had 311 registered attendees. Mayor Frank Thompson welcomed guests.
