ORIGINAL RECAP: “The PBGS was again called upon to sponsor the Midwest Regional Meeting of SEG. The convention was held during the month of May in El Paso, Texas”

The Society began the year in very healthy financial shape – even though they had been most generous in the previous year. The Treasurer reported a balance of $4596.20 at Midland Savings and Loan and a balance of $1460.15 at Midland National Bank. Now who was it said that geophysicists had no regard for saving money?

The February 10 meeting had a double bill with Dr. M. R. McPhail (Humble Oil & Refining) presenting a paper on “Seismic Noise”, followed by a film on “Big Blast at Ripple Rock”!! Wonder if there was a connection between the two?

PBGS hosted the SEG Regional Meeting in El Paso on April 26-28.

Variety was continued at the May 21 meeting when Mr. Allen Walde (McCollum Exploration Co.) presented a paper on “The Geograph Today” which was followed by the film “Showman Shooter”. One hundred fourteen members enjoyed the event. As a result of the hosting of the meeting in El Paso, the Annual Meeting (local) was cancelled which explains the missing year count since the Meeting in 1960 is listed as the 8th Annual. The WTGS history also has no record of a joint meeting for 1959.
