Permian Basin Geophysical Society

History of the PBGS: 1958

OFFICERS:

PRESIDENT: B. Frank Owings (Forest Oil Corp.)
FIRST VP: R. A. Baile (Empire Geophysical Co.)
SECOND VP: John E. Clark (Union of California)
SECRETARY: S. L. Hake (National Geophysical Co.)
TREASURER: John M. Armstrong (Cities Service Oil Co.)

ORIGINAL RECAP: “PBGS Executive Committee authorized the issuance of certificates to all office holders, and gavels and plaques to all past and future Presidents of the Society.”

This seemed to be a year of generosity for the PBGS. We elected to aid the WTGS in helping furnish the technical department at the Midland County Library. Later in the year we had our first proposal for a scholarship fund. The recommendation was for $1200 for 4 years with gradational increases of $200 to $400 per year.

The Society also hosted a past Presidents cocktail dinner meeting which was a great success and obviously enjoyed by all the past Presidents. I wonder why this fell out of practice?

Total membership was reported as follows: (March 24, 1958)
135 Active SEG members
59 Associate SEG members
115 non-members

Total 309

A joint meeting of the PBGS and WTGS was held on May 16-17, 1958, but details are not available.
