ORIGINAL RECAP: “PBGS sponsored the Sixth Annual Midwestern Regional Meeting held in Dallas at the Adolphus Hotel in Dallas, Texas.”

An SEG report on geophysical education in 1952 – 1953 indicated 273 undergraduates enrolled in geophysics or geophysical engineering and total graduate students at 174. The number of BS degrees conferred was 52, MS degrees was 34 and PhD degrees was 19 (none in Texas or Oklahoma).

The PBGS was sponsor of the SW Meeting in Dallas since regional meetings were not being held in “outback” towns at this time.

We did follow our own tradition, however, and held the 2nd Annual Meeting of the PBGS at the Scharbauer Hotel on May 16, 1953. It was a one day program with 8 papers and a motion picture film on safety (dynamite days, remember!!). George Grimm, President, hosted. Another success.
